VCA membership is open to individuals who are involved in the corrections profession or a related field, support the goals of improving the profession, subscribes to the ACA's and the VCA's Constitution and Bylaws, and who pays annual dues, unless the person is a Life Member.

Founded in 1979, the Virginia Correctional Association is a Dual Membership Chapter of the American Correctional Association, the premier national association representing the corrections profession. The American Correctional Association was founded in 1870 and serves as the voice of corrections.
